New Administrative Credit Hours Opportunities
Guidelines for Mentors of Physical Therapist in Residency and Fellowship Education Programs
Licensees can now earn credit for mentoring physical therapists in residency and fellowship programs, similar to the option for earning credit as a clinical instructor of physical therapy students. Mentors and Clinical Instructors may earn a maximum of five administrative hours during the renewal period. Below is a three-step process for reporting these hours for the purpose of renewals:
Step 1: Calculate CEs
Earn one hour for every 120 hours of mentorship or clinical instruction. A total of five hours can be used towards renewal. These hours are categorized as administrative. There are no minimum administrative hours required for renewal, but licensees may include up to eight administrative hours towards the 30 hours of continuing education needed for renewals (§194). These administrative hours are counted towards the live/in-person requirement.
Step 2: Document
Complete a board-approved form (found here). The form must be signed by the licensee seeking continuing education credit for participating as a mentor or clinical instructor, as well as one of the other approved individuals listed on the form.
Step 3: Report
Log-in here to access your licensee dashboard. Scroll to the Continuing Education Coursework section of the page. Click “Add Course.” In the “Course Sponsor” dropdown list, select “LPTB” and for the course select “Clinical Instructor” or “Mentor” with the number of hours that you completed. In the next screen, enter the month and year of the end of the period of mentorship or instruction that is calculated for credit. Click “submit.” Click the course. Click the “Add Certificate” button. Scan and upload the signed Clinical Instructor or Mentor form.
Guidelines for Licensees Serving in Elected Positions of Physical Therapy Organizations
Licensees may earn a maximum of five administrative credit hours for serving in an elected position of a physical therapy organization during the renewal period. Below is the three-step process for reporting these hours for the purpose of renewals:
Step 1: Submit for Board Approval
Licensee completes a continuing education application for individual approval on a board-approved form (found here). Instructions for submission are printed on the form.
Step 2: Receive Notice
The board office staff will notify the licensee of approval or denial of the CE application by email and with an official letter. If approved, the licensee will receive an approval letter by email and the board office staff will update the CE credit on the licensee’s profile. The administrative credit hours received for the course will appear on the licensee’s online Dashboard.
Step 3: Save your Approval Form
Log-in here to access your licensee Dashboard. Scroll to the Continuing Education Coursework section of the page. Find the record of administrative hours in the list of completed continuing education for the renewal period. Click the course. Click “Add Certificate” button. Scan and upload the Approval Letter.
