Governor Jeff Landry has announced the appointment of Matthew Williams, MD to the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board, effective August 2, 2024. Dr. Williams was chosen from the nominations by the Louisiana State Medical Society to fill the physician seat left vacant at the end of former member Meredith Warner's, MD term. This is Dr. Williams' first term.
Pursuant to §2403.B, the board is comprised of 8 members appointed by the governor of Louisiana and confirmed by the senate. Board members may serve no more than two consecutive terms.
Matthew Williams Bio:
Matthew D. Williams, MD is a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow. He is nationally and internationally trained in shoulder replacement surgery and is a specialist in total shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, and revision shoulder replacements (the treatment of painful or failed shoulder replacements).
Dr. Williams completed his residency training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He obtained his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and bachelor’s degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.
Dr. Williams is academically active and has authored articles and book chapters on shoulder replacement, shoulder arthritis, shoulder instability, and shoulder stiffness. He has presented scientific papers at national and international meetings. In 2008 The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons recognized Dr. Williams with the Mel Post research award for research concerning reverse shoulder replacement surgery. Dr. Williams is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery for the LSU Medical Center in New Orleans and takes an active role in educating current orthopedic surgery residents at UMC in Lafayette. Dr. Williams serves with his partners as team physicians for the University of Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
Dr. Williams' term expires on August 1, 2027. The Board members and office staff all look forward to serving the state of Louisiana with him in their mutual goal of protecting the public.
